Bare (woreda)

Bare (Somali: Barre) is one of the 47 woredas in the Somali Region of Ethiopia. Part of the Afder Zone, Bare is bordered on the south by the Provisional Administrative Line with Somalia, on the southwest by Dolobay, on the northwest by Afder, on the north by Mirab Imi, and on the east by Shebelle River which separates it from the Gode Zone. The major town in this woreda is Bare.

Demographics

Based on figures published by the Central Statistical Agency in 2005, Bare has an estimated total population of 99,832, of whom 43,545 are men and 56,287 are women; 7,654 or 7.67% of its population are urban dwellers, which is less than the Zone average of 8.6%. Information is not available for the area of Bare, so its population density cannot be calculated.[1] This woreda is primarily inhabited by the Awlihan, one of subdivisions of the Somali people.[2]

The 1997 national census reported a total population for this woreda of 80,797, of whom 46,319 were men and 34,478 were women; 5,124 or 6.34% of its population were urban dwellers. The largest ethnic group reported in Bare was the Somali people (99.94%).[3]
